If you are planning to buy a premium hatchback and are confused between the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Toyota Glanza, you are not alone as these two cars look almost identical, share the same engines
and even come from the same factory. Yet, buyers often wonder why both exist and which one makes more sense. Let’s have a look at the key differences.
Price
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno starts at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and is one of India’s best-selling premium hatchbacks, which is widely available through Maruti’s Nexa dealerships. The Toyota Glanza, on the other hand, starts at Rs 6,39,300 (ex-showroom) and is Toyota’s version of the Baleno. Prices for both cars are very close, with minor differences depending on variant and offers.
Engine and Performance
Both cars are powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces around 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is known for smooth performance, low noise and great reliability. There is also a CNG option for buyers looking to save on fuel costs. Transmission options include 5-speed manual and AMT (automatic) for easy driving.
Mileage
Mileage is one of the strongest reasons people choose these cars, as both of them deliver around 22–23 kmpl in petrol and over 30 km/kg in CNG.
Space, Comfort and Practicality
Both hatchbacks are spacious for five passengers and offer 318 litres of boot space, comfortable seats and light steering and smooth suspension for city roads. Dimensions, wheelbase, and ride quality are identical, so interior comfort is the same in both cars.
Features and Technology
Higher variants of both cars offer- large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Head-Up Display (HUD), automatic climate control and push-button start.
However, Toyota adds its i-Connect connected car tech, while Maruti focuses on Nexa-exclusive features. The difference here is more about branding than functionality.
Safety
Both the Baleno and Glanza now come with 6 airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, stability control and hill-hold assist (on higher variants).
The Baleno has received a 4-star safety rating, but Toyota Glanza does not have any NCAP safety ratings yet.
So, Which One Should You Buy?
If you want a wider service network and resale value, you can choose Maruti Suzuki Baleno. But if you look for Toyota’s warranty support and brand trust, go for Toyota Glanza.
At the end of the day, both cars deliver the same driving experience. Your final choice should depend on dealership experience, after-sales comfort and personal brand preference.
