In the highly competitive SUV market, Volkswagen has taken a big step forward with the reveal of the 2027 Atlas, its popular three-row family SUV. This is the second generation of the Atlas, and it comes at a time when SUVs dominate sales.
Updated Design
The new Atlas may look familiar at first glance, but it has been updated carefully. It shares its design with the Teramont Pro sold in China, with similar front and rear styling. However, Volkswagen has kept some practical elements, like traditional door handles instead of fully electronic ones.
The SUV continues with a strong, boxy shape, which is important for space and presence. New colour options like Sacramento Green, Blackberry, and Sandstone add freshness to the lineup.
New Interior
Inside,
the changes are much more noticeable. The cabin has been redesigned to feel more modern and premium. At the center is a 12.9 inches large touchscreen as standard, with an option for a bigger 15-inch screen. This system controls most of the car’s functions, including media and climate settings.
While the car uses touch-based controls, Volkswagen has kept a physical volume knob, which is easier to use while driving. The materials have also improved. Higher variants offer real wood trims and Nappa leather seats. There are also ambient lights across the dashboard and doors, which can change colours.

For everyday use, the Atlas offers practical features like wireless phone charging, USB-C ports in all three rows, and heated and ventilated seats. Higher variants even get massaging front seats.
Space And Comfort
The Atlas continues to focus on space. It is a three-row SUV, meaning it can comfortably seat up to seven passengers. For families, this makes it ideal for long trips, daily travel, and carrying luggage. Flexible seating and improved cargo space make it more practical than before.
Engine And Performance
The new Atlas is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. It produces around 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, which means the SUV has enough power for smooth highway driving and carrying passengers without stress. Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). AWD helps improve grip, especially on rough or slippery roads.
Price
Volkswagen has not officially announced prices yet, but the Atlas is expected to start in the mid- USD 40,000 range and go up to around USD 55,000 for higher variants. However the brand has not revealed details about its India arrival.
