If you have been planning a MG car, this might be the right time to act as MG Motor India has officially announced a price hike of up to 2% across its lineup, effective April 1, 2026. The company says this move is driven by rising input costs which is a familiar reason that has been echoed across the auto industry this year.
What’s Getting Costlier
The upcoming price revision will affect most of MG’s portfolio in India. Popular models like the MG Comet EV, MG Astor, MG Hector, MG Hector Plus, MG ZS EV and MG Gloster will see a price increase. However, MG has confirmed that the MG Cyberster and MG M9 EV will remain unaffected.
Why Are Prices Increasing?
In simple terms, car manufacturers are currently dealing with higher costs for raw materials,
logistics and production. Rather than absorbing all these costs, companies pass on a small portion to customers.

MG Motor India has clarified that this price hike is meant to partially offset rising input costs, not fully cover them. So while prices are going up, the increase has been kept relatively moderate.
MG isn’t alone in making this move. Other automakers like Tata Motors, Mercedes-Benz and Audi have also announced similar price hikes starting April 2026. For buyers, this signals a broader trend as cars across segments are becoming slightly more expensive as the new financial year begins.
Interestingly, this announcement comes at a time when MG is expanding its lineup. The company recently unveiled its upcoming SUV, the MG Majestor, for which bookings have already begun at Rs 41,000. The Majestor will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing over 212 bhp and 478.5 Nm of torque. Once launched, it will go head-to-head with established rivals like the Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.
If you are planning to buy an MG car, this is a classic case of “sooner is better.” Booking your vehicle before April 1 could help you avoid the revised pricing. Price hikes are never welcome, but they are part of the auto industry’s cycle. In MG’s case, the increase is modest, and the brand continues to offer a mix of petrol, diesel, and electric options for Indian buyers.
