Jaguar Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors, has officially started local production of the Range Rover Evoque and the first India-made Evoque has rolled out from the brand-new manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, which marks a major milestone for both JLR and Tata Motors’ long-term plans in the country.
The Ranipet facility is significant because it is the first vehicle plant from the Tata Group in this region and also the first factory where JLR vehicles will be manufactured in Tamil Nadu. The facility was formally inaugurated by MK Stalin, in the presence of senior state officials and top executives from Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover. Located roughly 90 kilometres from Chennai, the plant strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as one of India’s key automotive hubs. With this, Tata Motors now operates five passenger vehicle manufacturing facilities across India. These include two plants in Sanand (Gujarat), one in Pune, a joint venture facility in Ranjangaon and now the Ranipet plant in Tamil Nadu. The new factory has an annual production capacity of up to 2.5 lakh units.
According to the company, the Ranipet facility has been designed to support next-generation products from both Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles
and Jaguar Land Rover. Over time, it will also play a crucial role in JLR’s electrification strategy in India. Currently, Tata Motors carries out its CKD (Completely Knocked Down) operations for JLR models in Pune, but these operations will be gradually shifted to the Tamil Nadu plant.

The Range Rover Evoque becomes the first model to roll out from this factory, reinforcing its importance as JLR’s entry-level luxury SUV. In India, the Evoque is priced from Rs 64.86 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered with mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 250 bhp and 365 Nm of torque, while the diesel version delivers 204 bhp and a strong 430 Nm of torque. Both versions come paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system as standard. For Indian buyers, local production is expected to improve supply efficiency and strengthen after-sales support over time.
