Volvo has just given its three-row electric SUV, the 2026 EX90, a serious technology upgrade. The highlight is a brand-new 800-volt electrical system, which now replaces the old 400-volt setup.
Why does it matter?
It means the EX90 can now charge much faster with a 350 kW DC fast charger. The SUV can add up to 155 miles that is 250 km of driving range in just 10 minutes. The previous version could only handle 250 kW, so this is actually a big step forward.
Volvo also says that the system improves efficiency, gives the SUV more power for quicker acceleration and even reduces weight in the battery and motors. On top of that, the EX90 now gets a fancy electrochromic panoramic roof which is the kind that can dim or lighten at the push of a button.

Safety
Volvo is famous for its safety features and they are also upgrading. The EX90 now adds connected safety alerts that warn about slippery roads, hazards or accidents ahead. It also includes Emergency Stop Assist, which can safely stop the car and call Volvo’s emergency center immediately if the driver becomes unresponsive. Adding to that, its automatic emergency steering now works even in the dark and Park Pilot can handle parallel parking efficiently and effortlessly.
Under the hood or rather, under the software, the SUV now packs dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin computers, which gives it 500 trillion operations per second of computing power. Current 2025 EX90 owners can also get this upgrade by visiting their Volvo dealer or centre.
But that’s not all, Volvo also announced big news for the US, as the company plans to build the XC60 SUV in South Carolina from late 2026, including hybrid versions, and will add a new next-generation hybrid model before 2030.
With 70 years in the US and more than 5 million cars sold there, Volvo isn’t just going electric but it is building a future that blends speed, safety, and smart design.
