Toyota seems to be working on the launch of the next-gen Hilux in India. The premium pickup truck has been seen undisguised on the road near Delhi Aerocity. Though the automaker has not revealed any plans yet, the most recent sighting of the pickup suggests that the launch is near. Globally unveiled late last year, the new Hilux stands out as one of the biggest updates ever seen on the pickup. It sports a revamped exterior, a more feature-rich interior, and expanded powertrain options. Here's a closer look at the key details of the ninth-gen Hilux that may also be available on the India-spec pickup version.
New Toyota Hilux: New Design And Feature-Rich Cabin
The next-gen global-spec Toyota Hilux carries the same rugged stance, but is now more upright and muscular. The front fascia is wider and gives
the pickup a stronger road presence. While the electric version distinguishes itself with a closed panel, the regular version gets a large trapezoidal grille with a mesh pattern. The horizontal LED headlamps are sleek, and they are joined by a middle panel with Toyota lettering. The redesigned body also features updated side steps and improved access to the cargo bed.
The interior has been modernised with an array of amenities. The dashboard looks clean and more sophisticated. There's also a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an equally large touchscreen infotainment system. Other highlights include multiple USB ports, wireless smartphone charging, and enhanced connected car technology.
New Toyota Hilux: Hybrid Diesel Could Be The Best Bet For India
While Toyota has introduced the Hilux globally with diesel, hybrid, battery-electric, and future hydrogen-powered versions, the Indian market is expected to receive the 48V mild-hybrid diesel variant. This particular variant uses a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine with a hybrid system. The engine is expected to produce 201bhp and 500Nm, and comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive capability.
