Chinese automaker Chery has filed a design patent for its Tiggo 8 SUV in India, signalling a potential entry into the country. While the brand has not made any official announcement regarding a launch,
the patent filing suggests that the company is exploring an Indian debut.
The Tiggo 8 is a full-sized SUV, measuring 4,696 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,745 mm in height. If launched here, it would compete with established rivals such as the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. However, unlike the Fortuner, which is more rugged and off-road oriented, the Tiggo 8 appears to focus on a premium, road-centric experience.
On the design front, the Tiggo 8 features a sleek and modern look. Its front fascia is highlighted by a chrome grille and split headlight setup, giving it a sophisticated and contemporary look. The SUV’s overall proportions and styling cues suggest a focus on comfort and urban appeal, rather than heavy-duty off-roading.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 241 hp and 390 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and a 4-wheel drive system is also available. The SUV offers six driving modes.
Inside, the Tiggo 8 is feature-rich. The cabin comes equipped with a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. Other highlights include a 12-speaker sound system, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety and driver assistance are also priorities for the Tiggo 8. International variants feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 19 active safety technologies, supported by nine airbags.

If Chery launches the Tiggo 8 in India, it could offer a strong alternative to established SUVs in the segment, particularly for buyers seeking a premium, feature-packed vehicle rather than a purely rugged off-roader, making it a solid rival against the likes of the Fortuner and Gloster.
