India’s electric scooter market is growing rapidly with dozens of new brands and models entering the segment. Bajaj Chetak, which is one of India's iconic scooters of the 80s and 90s, has reinvented itself
as a modern electric scooter and is now amongst the strongest performers in the EV two-wheeler space. And the big news is that Bajaj has officially confirmed a brand-new Chetak model, which is scheduled to launch in early 2026.
This announcement was highlighted in Bajaj’s FY26 Q2 Conference Call filed on the BSE. According to Vahan registration data, the Chetak became India’s best-selling electric scooter in October 2025, which proves its growing popularity among Indian buyers.
Electric scooters have become a preferred choice in India due to rising fuel prices, low running cost and eco-friendly performance. However, many buyers still look for a brand they can be trusted and the Chetak name carries decades of emotional value.

Current Chetak Lineup
Right now, Bajaj sells two versions of the Chetak:
1. Chetak Series 30, which starts at Rs 99,900 (ex-showroom), comes with 3 kWh battery with the range of up to 127 km and the top speed of 63 kmph, This scooter charges from 0–80% in about 3 hours 50 minutes, which makes it an everyday scooter.
2. Chetak Series 35 , which starts at Rs 1,02,500 (ex-showroom), is equipped with a 3.5 kWh battery and delivers a range of up to 153 km with 73 kmph top speed. It offers longer range and more premium features.
Both the scooters come with an all-metal body, which makes them feel solid and premium. Bajaj has also built a strong retail network with 390 exclusive Chetak stores and 4,000 sales points across 800 cities.
What to Expect from the New 2026 Chetak?
While details are still under wraps, the new model is expected to bring better range, faster charging, new design updates, improved performance and smart features to match growing EV competition. With Bajaj’s strong engineering, the upcoming 2026 version could become one of the most exciting EV launches in the country.
