HPCL Presents Times Drive Auto Summit & Awards 2026 concluded on May 5, 2026, in New Delhi, with awards recognising vehicles that align with changing mobility preferences under the theme ‘India’s Mobility Mission 2030: Clean Tech, Smart Manufacturing, Global Vision’. In the two-wheeler category, the Yamaha XSR 155 was named Neo-Retro Motorcycle of the Year. The model brings together retro-inspired styling with a modern 155cc platform, which matters for buyers looking for a distinct design without moving away from everyday usability and manageable performance.
Engine, Performance And Riding Experience
The Yamaha XSR 155, priced from Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom), uses a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 18.14 hp and 14.2 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It features
Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), which helps maintain consistent performance across low and high RPM ranges.
In everyday terms, this means smoother city riding without frequent gear changes, while still offering enough power for highway stretches. The inclusion of a slipper clutch improves control during quick downshifts, which is useful in stop-go traffic or when riding more aggressively.
Design, Hardware And Features
The XSR 155 follows a neo-retro design with a round LED headlamp, brushed metal-finish tank elements and a minimalist tail section. Despite the classic styling cues, the motorcycle uses modern hardware underneath.
It is built on Yamaha’s Deltabox frame and gets upside-down front forks along with a rear monoshock. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends with single-channel ABS. The bike also features a fully digital instrument cluster, keeping essential riding data visible without adding complexity.
This combination keeps the motorcycle lightweight and easy to handle, which is important for daily urban use.
Buyer Relevance
The Neo-Retro Motorcycle of the Year recognition reflects a growing shift in the Indian two-wheeler market. Buyers are increasingly looking for motorcycles that offer individuality in design without compromising on reliability and ease of use.
The XSR 155 fits into this space by offering a familiar, proven engine platform combined with a different visual identity. For many buyers, especially younger riders, this means getting a motorcycle that stands out on the road while still being practical for everyday commuting. Its award highlights how design-led motorcycles are becoming more relevant in India’s entry and mid-capacity segments.
With HPCL as the presenting partner, the event included Yes Securities and Garware as Associate Partners, along with Corporate Warranties India, Trev Mobility, and Heights Outdoor in supporting roles.
