CNG cars are becoming popular in India as they offer good fuel economy and lower emissions, which is a great choice for buyers looking for affordable running costs without choosing an electric car. Two
strong contenders present in this market space are the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG.
Both SUVs are built on the same platform and share the same engine, but they are different in features, pricing and brand appeal. Here is a detailed, easy-to-understand specification and price comparison.

Engine and Performance
Both SUVs use the same 1.5-litre K15C, 4-cylinder petrol-CNG engine which produces 87 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 121.5 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. They both are equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox and deliver an ARAI-certified mileage of 26.6 km/kg, which makes them fuel-efficient options for long drives and daily city commutes.
However, the Grand Vitara also offers an Idle Start/Stop system, which automatically switches off the engine at red lights or during long halts to save fuel which is something not available in the Hyryder CNG.
Dimensions and Space
Dimension-wise, both are nearly same.
- Grand Vitara: 4,345 mm (L) x 1,795 mm (W) x 1,645 mm (H)
- Hyryder: 4,365 mm (L) x 1,795 mm (W) x 1,645 mm (H)
Both have a wheelbase of 2,600 mm which ensures similar cabin space and 373 litres of boot space, though it reduces when using the CNG kit.
Features and Comfort
The Grand Vitara CNG is offered in two variants – Delta and Zeta.
- The Zeta variant gets premium features like a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, air purifier, rear door sunshades and a Clarion sound system.
- Safety is prime in the Zeta trim with six airbags as standard, ESP, Hill Hold Assist, and TPMS.
The Toyota Hyryder CNG also comes in two variants which are - S and G.
- The S variant offers basic features like a 7-inch touchscreen, dual airbags, and LED projector headlamps.
- The G variant matches the Grand Vitara Zeta with features like a 9-inch touchscreen, six airbags, TPMS, ventilated front seats, rear sunshades and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Both the SUVs prioritize comfort and convenience in budget friendly options, but the Grand Vitara’s standard six airbags give it a slight plus points over the Hyryder’s base model.

- Choose the Grand Vitara if you want better safety features as standard and slightly lower pricing.
- Choose the Hyryder if you prefer Toyota’s premium feel, brand reputation, and slightly higher stylish design.
Either way, both models prove that eco-friendly driving doesn’t have to compromise comfort or performance, which makes them smart choices for modern Indian buyers.
