The Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Harley-Davidson X440 sit in the same price band but take very different approaches to the mid-size cruiser space. What’s new for buyers is the expanding overlap between 350cc and 400cc+ motorcycles where higher power and features are now available at slightly higher prices. This matters in India because buyers are no longer choosing just on brand legacy but on measurable factors like performance, features as well as pricing. With both models offering multiple variants and distinct riding characteristics, the choice comes down to how you plan to use the motorcycle daily.
Variants, Design And Road Presence
The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is offered in multiple trims including Redditch, Halcyon, Dark and Chrome, with prices ranging roughly from Rs
1.86 lakh to Rs 2.21 lakh (ex-showroom). Each variant mainly changes finish, wheels and braking setup with entry versions using single-channel ABS and higher trims getting dual-channel ABS. Its design remains traditional with a rounded headlamp, teardrop tank, spoke wheels on several variants along with chrome detailing. The bike weighs about 195 kg and carries a 13-litre fuel tank, reinforcing its long-distance usability.
The X440 is available in two main trims: Vivid and S, priced between roughly Rs 2.34 lakh and Rs 2.55 lakh (ex-showroom). There is a new and more premium T variant as well, which comes in at Rs 2.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The base variant gets spoke wheels while higher variants add alloy wheels, premium finishes and connected features.
In terms of design, the X440 uses a more modern approach with a muscular tank, flat handlebar as well as minimal chrome. It is slightly lighter at around 190.5 kg and gets a larger 13.5-litre tank.
Engine, Features And Safety
The Classic 350 uses a 349cc single-cylinder engine producing about 20.2 bhp and 27 Nm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Its focus is steady torque delivery rather than acceleration with a claimed mileage of around 41.5 kmpl.
The X440 steps up with a 440cc engine producing around 27 bhp and 38 Nm. The unit comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This translates to stronger mid-range and better highway performance. Claimed fuel efficiency is around 35 kmpl.
Feature-wise, the Classic 350 offers a semi-digital console, optional Tripper navigation and USB charging depending on variant. The X440, especially in higher trims includes a fully digital display, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and LED lighting.
On safety, both bikes get disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS as standard on most variants. The X440 also adds a side-stand engine cut-off feature.

Price, Comfort And Which One Fits Your Use
The RE Classic 350 remains the more accessible option, starting under Rs 2 lakh and offering a lower entry barrier. Its 805 mm seat height and relaxed ergonomics make it easier for city riding and shorter riders.
The X440 costs more but delivers higher performance and more features. It shares a similar seat height of around 805 mm but offers a slightly more neutral riding posture and wider handlebar, which can feel more engaging on highways.
What this really means is simple. If your priority is lower cost, classic styling along with predictable performance, the Classic 350 fits better. If you want stronger acceleration, more features and a modern feel, the X440 offers a clearer advantage. The decision isn’t about which bike is better overall. It’s about whether you value price and simplicity or performance and added technology in daily use.
