When it comes to off-road vehicles, two names instantly catch the eye - New Toyota Land Cruiser FJ and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Both are rugged, both are adventurous, but they cater to very different kinds of drivers. For new readers or auto enthusiasts, this comparison helps you understand just how different or similar these two SUVs really are - in size, space and attitude.
The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, which was unveiled in 2025 ahead of the Japan Mobility Show, is the spiritual successor to the legendary FJ Cruiser. It is designed as a compact SUV but is still massive compared to the Jimny. The FJ measures 4,575 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,960 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. It is a two-row, five-seater SUV that blends
Toyota’s off-road heritage with modern comfort.
Now, let’s talk about the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. This is available in both 3-door and 5-door versions, the Jimny has a more playful and compact personality. The Jimny 5-door, sold in India, measures 3,985 mm long, 1,645 mm wide and 1,720 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,590 mm, interestingly, this is slightly longer than the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ. However, the rest of its dimensions make it almost 590 mm shorter, 210 mm narrower and 240 mm shorter in height than the Toyota, which doesn’t make a huge difference.

When it comes to space and practicality, the Land Cruiser FJ offers 1,062 liters of boot space, compared to just 211 liters in the Jimny. The FJ’s taller body also means better headroom and overall cabin comfort, especially for taller passengers. The Jimny, on the other hand, feels more compact inside which is perfect for short city drives or tight off-road trails but not ideal for long highway trips with luggage.
On the capability front, both SUVs stay true to their purpose as the Land Cruiser FJ shares its platform with the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner, which means serious off-road hardware and long-distance reliability. The Jimny, meanwhile, is light, agile and easier to maneuver through narrow mountain paths or urban traffic.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is a “big explorer”, while the Maruti Suzuki Jimny is a “compact adventurer.” The FJ is made for those who want strength, space and presence, whereas the Jimny is perfect for those who want a fun, go-anywhere SUV that doesn’t feel intimidating. Both carry adventure in their DNA, only in different sizes and that too with no big difference.
