Next-Gen Kia Telluride Unveiled - Should India Get It Next?

Kia has taken the wraps off the next-generation Telluride ahead of its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 21–30, 2023). The 2027 Telluride looks tougher and more purposeful than ever. It’s longer by 2.3 inches and rides on a wheelbase stretched by 3 inches, translating to even more cabin room.

The styling now leans toward a more upright, muscular stance, with a larger grille, vertically stacked LED lights, and sharper contours replacing the rounded lines of the outgoing model. It’s a design clearly aimed at giving the Telluride more road presence, something Indian buyers tend to appreciate.

Step inside, and the cabin has moved a few notches upmarket. Kia has gone big on tech, with dual 12.3-inch screens sweeping across the dashboard.

The materials appear richer, too, with genuine wood and metallic finishes giving the interior a refined vibe.

Kia hasn’t revealed powertrain details yet, but reports suggest a 3.5-litre V6 petrol and a new plug-in hybrid variant might be in the works. The outgoing Telluride’s 291 hp V6 was already capable, so the addition of hybrid tech could make the next one both stronger and cleaner. Sales are likely to begin in early 2026, with prices in the US expected to start just under $40,000 (around Rs 33 lakh before taxes).

Now, the real question: should Kia bring it to India? On paper, the Telluride fits the profile of what Indian premium SUV buyers want. The SUV market here is booming, and with hybrid options on the rise, a Telluride PHEV could find an audience. The challenge, however, lies in pricing and positioning. Competing against established seven-seaters like the Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster won’t be easy.

Still, if Kia wants to expand its premium portfolio in India, the Telluride could be the halo model that makes a strong statement. Big, feature-rich, and imposing, it’s the kind of SUV that would definitely turn heads on Indian roads.
