Hyundai is likely to be the second car manufacturer in India, after Maruti Suzuki, to join the Flex Fuel bandwagon. While the brand has not made any comments on the exact timeline for production rollout, but it is expected to introduce Flex Fuel versions of several popular cars, including the Creta, Venue, and Exter. The move will align with India’s push toward higher ethanol-blended fuel adoption in the country. Here are 5 Hyundai cars that are most likely to receive flex-fuel engine options in the coming months.
Hyundai Creta
The Creta mid-size SUV is anticipated to spearhead the carmaker's flex-fuel journey in India. It has already been showcased as a prototype capable of using up to 100% ethanol. Though there's no confirmation, the SUV is likely to use
a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (118hp/172Nm) for its flex-fuel application. Given its huge popularity, the Creta will most likely act as Hyundai’s critical testbed for the higher ethanol blend.
Hyundai Venue
The Venue is likely to be another Hyundai car on the list to embrace the flex fuel tech. As one of the brand’s highest-selling compact SUVs, the transition to the E100 model will play a key role in Hyundai’s India strategy. The car isexpected to adopt the 1.0-litre GDi turbo-petrol engine, which already has flex-fuel compatibility in international markets. If introduced in India, it could give the Venue a stronger edge in the crowded space of compact SUVs in the country.
Hyundai i20, i20 N Line
The Hyundai i20 and its performance-focused sibling, the i20 N Line, are also likely to benefit from a flex-fuel engine. Both models currently use the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is already adapted for flex-fuel use in markets like Brazil. With the flex fuel version, Hyundai will expand its cleaner fuel options in its premium hatchback lineup.
Hyundai Exter
The Hyundai Exter is another Hyundai that could get a flex-fuel engine. It currently uses a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which may be calibrated to support the higher ethanol content. The flex-fuel technology could make the micro-SUV more popular among price-sensitive buyers looking for cleaner fuel alternatives.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
The Grand i10 Nios is also expected to be part of the flex-fuel roadmap. It shares its 1.2-litre petrol engine architecture with the Exter, which makes it a most likeable option for similar upgrades.
While Hyundai is actively developing flex-fuel-ready powertrains globally and has showcased prototypes in India, the company has not yet confirmed official launch timelines or pricing for production models. Moreover, the flex fuel version of the Hyundai cars will remain the same in terms of exterior and interior, with major changes under the hood.
