MG Motor has entered the mid-size pickup space with the reveal of the 2026 MG U9 Pickup Truck. It’s aimed squarely at popular models like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. At 5.5 metres long, nearly 2 metres wide and 1.87 metres tall, the U9 is a big machine. It rides on a 3.3-metre wheelbase with 220 mm of ground clearance, and its approach and departure angles are rated at 29 and 25 degrees. MG claims it can carry 870 kg in its bed and tow up to 3,500 kg.
Powering the truck is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine putting out 215 bhp and 520 Nm. It’s paired to an eight-speed automatic from ZF. Higher-spec versions add up to three locking differentials and a BorgWarner transfer case.
There will be a choice of three trims: Explore, Explore X
and Explore Pro, with prices in Australia ranging from AUD 52,990 (approx Rs 31 lakh) to AUD 60,990 (approx Rs 35 lakh). Six exterior colours are on offer, including Midnight Black, Alpine White and Canyon Grey.
The exterior sticks to a tough look. There’s a large chrome grille, vertically stacked LED headlights, chunky body cladding and a powered tailgate with upright LED tail lamps. Inside, the U9 takes a premium approach with leather seats, suede headliner, dual 12.3-inch screens, an eight-speaker JBL audio system and a panoramic sunroof. Rear seats can fold flat to increase cargo space through an opening mid-gate.
