Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled the V12 Edition of its S 680 sedan, and only 50 cars will ever be made worldwide. The big reveal happened in Italy, at the historic Fort Michelangelo in Civitavecchia, in the presence of private audience.
This limited-edition luxury car is described as a modern tribute to the legendary Maybach Zeppelin of the 1930s, as back then, the Zeppelin wowed the world with a 12-cylinder engine producing up to 200 bhp and speeds of around 170 kmph, which was considered record-breaking for its time.
Exterior
The new V12 Edition makes its presence lively with a three-tone paint finish, which was olive metallic, obsidian black metallic, and a silver pinstripe that takes 10 days to apply. That’s twice as long as a regular Maybach paint job.
It also gets forged wheels painted in olive metallic, a gold-accented Maybach branding, and a special “12” badge, bowing to its powerful V12 engine.
Ultra-Luxurious Interior
Its interior and the cabin feels like a private lounge, as it is wrapped in saddle brown Nappa leather with rich burr walnut wood trim, even on the steering wheel. The roof liner features diamond quilting for that extra luxurious feel. Exclusive touches include a “1 of 50” badge, a gold Maybach 12 emblem, silver-plated champagne flutes and even a custom leather-trimmed trunk mat.
Under the Hood
Powering this beauty is a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine which produces 603 bhp and 900 Nm of torque. Despite being a luxury sedan that stretches 5.4 metres long, it goes from 0–100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds, due to its 9-speed automatic gearbox and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, however the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.
Exclusivity
With only 50 units worldwide, the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition is more of a collector’s masterpiece than just a car. Although deliveries will begin later this year, pricing remains a mystery.
