Harley-Davidson has confirmed plans for a new Sprint motorcycle based on the India-developed 440cc platform shared with the X440, with launch expected in 2026. The upcoming Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is likely to take a different approach from the X440 by focusing more on classic cruiser styling and relaxed ergonomics. Early sketches released by the company suggest a lower-slung design with a longer wheelbase and more traditional proportions. The motorcycle is important because it signals Harley-Davidson’s increasing focus on smaller, more affordable motorcycles globally while also expanding the role of Hero MotoCorp’s India-built 440cc platform.
Sprint 440 Expected To Share Engine With X440
The upcoming Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is expected to use the same 440cc oil-cooled single-cylinder
engine currently seen on the Harley-Davidson X440. On the X440, the motor produces around 27 bhp and 38 Nm of torque and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox.
While the engine is expected to remain largely unchanged, the riding experience could feel different because Harley-Davidson is likely to tune the motorcycle around cruiser-style comfort rather than sporty roadster dynamics. Early design sketches point towards lower seating, wider handlebars and a more stretched-out riding posture compared to the upright stance of the X440.
The company has also revived the historic “Sprint” name, which was previously used on smaller-capacity Harley-Davidson motorcycles sold internationally decades ago.

Why The Sprint 440 Could Matter For Indian Buyers
The Sprint 440 could become one of Harley-Davidson’s most important motorcycles in India because it may attract buyers who want a Harley-branded product without moving into heavyweight cruiser territory. The current X440 already helped lower the entry barrier to the brand, and the Sprint 440 may broaden that further by targeting buyers interested in more relaxed cruiser styling.
The motorcycle is expected to rival models such as the Royal Enfield Meteor 350, Honda H’ness CB350 and Jawa 42 Bobber. Since the X440 range currently starts around Rs 2.35 lakh (ex-showroom), the Sprint 440 is also expected to stay within a relatively accessible price bracket.
