While big and new electric SUVs have been stealing the spotlight lately, India's entry-level electric vehicle (EV) segment also has a lot to offer for new EV adopters. From hatchbacks to micro-EVs like
the MG Comet, there are multiple options to choose from under the Rs 10 lakh mark today. The MG Comet EV is currently the most affordable electric car that one can buy in India and here is a quick look at the features and specifications of the Comet Exclusive variant that has a price tag of Rs 4.99 lakh ex-showroom.
The Comet Exclusive is the base variant of the micro-EV, providing a budget-friendly starting point for buyers seeking an EV that can facilitate daily commutes without incurring high costs. As a base variant, it does not offer all the glamorous features, such as the dual 10.25-inch screens but it does offer functions and safety features that matter to first-time buyers.
It gets halogen headlamps and taillamps, an illuminated MG logo on the front, 12-inch steel wheels with cover, two-tone fabric upholstery for the seats, a 7-inch driver information display, remote locking, keyless entry, front power windows and more. The base Comet Executive also scores high in safety, featuring dual front airbags, ABS+EBD, rear parking sensors, speed-sensing auto door lock, and impact-sensing auto door unlock. It also gets a tyre pressure monitoring system and a 2-speaker audio system with Bluetooth.
Fortunately, the drivetrain and equipment of the MG Comet have not seen a major downgrade when compared to higher variants. It gets a 17.3 kWh battery pack that gives the micro-EV a claimed range of 230 km on a full charge. The motor produces 41.4 hp and 110 Nm of torque but the Exclusive variant does not get the option of fast-charging. The base variant also gets disc brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear, instead of discs on all four wheels.

Overall, if you are considering investing in an electric car for daily runs in the city, then the MG Comet EV Exclusive variant offers you a gateway into the EV life with the benefit of its micro-car dimensions. However, it is important to note that the Rs 4.99 lakh ex-showroom price tag for the Comet is under MG's Batter-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model, in which you have to pay Rs 3.1 per kilometre towards the battery subscription every month. In case you do not want to go for BaaS and want to pay for the battery up front, then the price of the Comet Executive jumps up to Rs 7.49 lakh ex-showroom.
