Toyota is getting ready for a big fightback in marathon racing. After Ferrari’s winning streak at Le Mans, Toyota Gazoo Racing has teased a brand-new version of its GR010 Hybrid hypercar, which is set
to officially launch in 2026.
The teaser shows a sharper and more aggressive design with serious aerodynamic updates. At the front, there are horizontal LED headlights with vents inspired by Toyota’s “hammerhead” road cars, while the back gets a more sleek full-width LED strip and a redesigned wing.
Between 2018 and 2022, Toyota ruled Le Mans with five straight wins. But things changed when Ferrari took the rank 1 in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Now, Toyota is aiming to take back the throne and of this they have developed a car as its weapon.
The current GR010, which was launched in 2021, uses a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 hybrid system producing 671 hp, as per race rules and regulations. While it is unclear if the hybrid setup itself will change or not, Toyota has confirmed the new model will carry a totally revised aerodynamic package.
According to Carscoops, at the 6 Hours of Fuji, things didn’t go as planned for Toyota, but Vice-Chairman of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, Kazuki Nakajima, emphasised, “We are working on introducing an evolution for next year. At the beginning of October, we will test the car equipped with this new aerodynamic package for the first time. As a team, we are working together and continuing our preparations with the firm intention of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year. To be honest, we’ve been considering this development since last year, and we even thought about launching it this year, but partly because of the change in the homologation wind tunnel location, we decided to postpone it for a year.”
The updated GR010 will take the trial for the first time at Circuit Paul Ricard in France on October 8-9, where Toyota will test its new aero setup in real-world conditions.
Toyota’s GR010 will continue to battle against giants like Ferrari, Aston Martin, Peugeot in the LMH category, while BMW, Porsche, Cadillac, Alpine compete in LMDh. And from 2027, even more brands like Genesis, McLaren, and Ford will join the competition, making the grid tougher than ever.
