Electric cars under Rs 15 lakh have become a smarter buy for middle-income buyers in Delhi who want to go electric, but the high on-road price remains an issue. Under the Delhi EV Policy 2.0, every battery electric car priced up to Rs 30 lakh ex-showroom gets a full waiver of road tax and registration charges, which can save about Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh off the on-road price. For a family weighing an EV as a first or second car, this is a great opportunity to make the move. Some of the most reliable electric cars in India sit under the Rs 15 lakh segment. Right now, there are exactly eight of them in that bracket. Here's a closer look at each of these models.
Delhi EV Policy 2026: What Changed
The policy has been active since July 1, 2026, and will run until March 31, 2030.
The most to benefit from the under policy are four-wheelers. EVs registered in Delhi during the window (until March 31, 2030), priced up to Rs 30 lakh ex-showroom, get 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees. It is important to know that the hybrids, including strong and plug-in hybrids, are excluded.
Moreover, buyers who scrap a BS-IV or older Delhi-registered petrol or diesel car and buy a qualifying EV within six months can also claim up to Rs 1 lakh under the new policy. However, this is capped for the first one lakh applicants. Incentives are routed through the Delhi Transport Department's portal.
