Honda has rolled out its advanced E-Clutch system to five more motorcycles in its global lineup for 2026, expanding the tech across its mid-capacity 500cc and 750cc models. The latest bikes to receive the update include the CBR500R, CB500 Hornet, NX500, Hornet 750, and XL750 Transalp.
The E-Clutch system, first seen on the CB650R and CBR650R, aims to simplify gearshifts. It allows the rider to upshift or downshift without using the clutch lever, as the system uses electronic actuators to handle clutch engagement automatically. You can even stop in gear without pulling in the lever or switching to neutral. The clutch lever still functions normally for those who prefer manual control.

Jam Together At BIC
On the 500cc range, integrating the E-Clutch was fairly straightforward since these bikes use a cable-operated throttle system, similar to the 650s. The bigger challenge was adapting the technology for Honda’s 750cc lineup, which features a ride-by-wire throttle setup. Here, the E-Clutch communicates with the throttle system to automatically blip the throttle during downshifts.
The E-Clutch system doesn’t add significant weight or complexity, which makes it appealing for those who want easier city commuting without sacrificing the mechanical connection of a manual gearbox. Essentially, it bridges the gap between traditional clutch operation and the convenience of a fully automatic transmission.

Currently, the CB650R and CBR650R are the only E-Clutch-equipped models available in India. But since the NX500, CB750 Hornet, and XL750 Transalp are already on sale here, it’s reasonable to expect that Honda will bring the E-Clutch versions of these models to the Indian market soon. This move would make Honda the first brand in India to offer such technology across multiple segments.
