The street bike segment in India is loaded with stylish and powerful motorcycles and two popular choices are the TVS Apache RTR 180 and the Honda Hornet 2.0. Both the motorbikes offer sporty looks, strong
performance and modern features, but they also differ in price, equipment and riding experience.
Engine and Performance
The TVS Apache RTR 180 is equipped with a 177.4cc oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine that delivers 17.13 PS of power and 15.5 Nm of torque in Sport Mode. It comes with TVS’s RT-Fi system, which adjusts power depending on the riding mode- Sport, Urban or Rain. This helps new riders enjoy controlled power in traffic and full punch on open roads. The bike has a top speed of 113 km/h and a claimed mileage of 45 kmpl, which makes it both exciting and efficient.
The Honda Hornet 2.0, on the other hand, is equipped with 184.4cc engine producing around 17 PS and 15.7 Nm. Despite similar figures, the Hornet is known for its smoother and more refined power delivery. It has a higher top speed of 130 km/h, making it the quicker motorcycle in this comparison. Its ARAI-rated mileage is 42.3 kmpl, slightly lower than the Apache RTR 180.

Ride Comfort, Handling and Suspension
TVS has equipped the Apache RTR 180 with a double cradle Synchro Stiff frame, making it lightweight at 140 kg and very nimble in traffic. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and monotube gas-filled shock absorbers at the rear, offering a stable and comfortable ride for city use.
Honda gives the Hornet 2.0 a more premium feel with USD front forks, a monoshock and a diamond frame. The Hornet weighs 142 kg, but the suspension setup provides better cornering stability and sportier handling compared to the Apache.
Braking and Safety
The Apache RTR 180 comes with petal discs on both ends and single-channel ABS, which is good enough for daily use. The Hornet 2.0, on the other hand, comes with dual-channel ABS, providing better braking control and added confidence, especially during hard braking or wet conditions.
Features and Technology
The Apache RTR 180 is loaded with features such as fully digital console with gear indicator and clock, TVS SmartXonnect with Bluetooth navigation, multiple riding modes, LED headlamp and tail lamp and GTT (Glide Through Traffic) tech for smooth low-speed riding.
The Hornet 2.0, on the other hand, offers LED lighting all around, digital meter display, Honda RoadSync connectivity and hazard switch & USB charging.
Both offer modern tech, but TVS gives more rider-focused features, while Honda offers cleaner, simpler functionality.
Price
TVS Apache RTR 180 starts at Rs 1,25,590 (ex-showroom), whereas Honda Hornet 2.0 starts at Rs 1,45,836 (ex-showroom). The Hornet is significantly more expensive but also offers premium hardware like USD forks and dual ABS.
If you want a feature-rich, value-for-money bike with excellent city performance and lower cost, the TVS Apache RTR 180 is the smarter choice, but, if you prefer premium hardware, sharper handling, and a more refined riding experience, the Honda Hornet 2.0 is worth considering.
