BharatBenz announced that it has joined hands with the Government of India to bolster the replacement of ageing commercial vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region. Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the manufacturer of BharatBenz trucks and buses, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). In its attempt to support the initiative, the company will offer 8% discount on the ex-showroom price of new BharatBenz trucks and buses purchased under the vehicle replacement scheme. For the unversed, the Government of India's Rs 9,585 crore-backed scheme for the replacement of old trucks and buses is part of the Centre's broader efforts. These are modernising the commercial vehicle fleet, enhancing
road safety as well as reducing vehicular emissions. It is approved by the Union Cabinet and is funded by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The implementation of this scheme is being overseen by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Over 2 Lakh Commercial Vehicles Likely Eligible Under Scheme
According to the government, the scheme is expected to cover around 2.07 lakh commercial vehicles across Delhi-NCR. This includes nearly 1.91 lakh trucks and more than 16,300 buses that qualify for replacement. Moreover, it is valid for BS-IV and older commercial vehicles registered in the region. Owners replacing these vehicles can opt for either new BS-VI compliant trucks and buses, cleaner fuel-powered models, or electric commercial vehicles, depending on the eligibility criteria laid down under the scheme.
Buyers will also be able to benefit from various incentives announced by the Central and State Governments, such as waivers on registration charges, interest subsidies on vehicle loans, fuel vouchers, and concessions on motor vehicle tax.
Focus On Cleaner And More Efficient Transport
Commenting on the development, Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said 'The Government of India's vehicle replacement scheme is a significant step towards accelerating fleet modernization and reducing vehicular emissions in the Delhi-NCR region. We are pleased to support this scheme and contribute to the transition towards cleaner, safer, and more efficient transportation. Through BharatBenz's range of BS-VI commercial vehicles, we look forward to helping customers upgrade their fleets while enhancing productivity, fuel efficiency, and operational performance.'
