Renault India has released a teaser for the upcoming Twingo E-Tech electric hatchback, ahead of its global unveiling on November 6, 2023. The teaser sparks curiosity, though it appears to be a promotional move rather than a hint of an India launch. The Twingo E-Tech will mark the brand’s latest addition to its expanding electric portfolio and is positioned as an affordable, city-focused EV for European markets. Expected to start at under £17,000 (approximately Rs 17.3 lakh), the small electric hatchback will aim to attract urban buyers.

What Does The New Renault Twingo Have To Offer?
Design-wise, the new Twingo stays true to its roots. It draws inspiration from the original model sold in Europe
between 1993 and 2007, adopting a retro-modern aesthetic. Round “bug-eye” headlights, an upright stance, and simple surfacing help it stand out. Despite its nostalgic cues, the car is built on Renault’s new AmpR EV platform, the same one underpinning upcoming models like the Renault 4 and 5.

The Twingo E-Tech will take on rivals such as the Dacia Spring and the upcoming Volkswagen ID.1 in Europe. Renault has confirmed that the model will undercut the outgoing Twingo Electric’s price, making it one of the most affordable EVs in its segment. To further build interest, Renault will introduce the “R-Pass” programme on October 15, allowing customers to secure early access to bookings and priority deliveries, along with a few exclusive benefits.
Will The Renault Twingo Launch In India?
As for India, Renault has not announced any plans to introduce the Twingo E-Tech locally. The teaser shared by Renault India appears to be part of a broader global campaign to build awareness around the model’s international debut rather than an indication of a domestic launch.

Still, the move does raise questions about Renault’s long-term electric plans for India. With the market gradually opening up to affordable EVs, the Twingo could be a strong contender if Renault decides to localise production in the future. For now, though, the Twingo remains a Europe-focused product.
