MG Majestor vs Gloster - Here’s Why You’re Paying More

The MG Majestor has made it to the Indian showrooms, with prices starting at Rs 40.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The full-size MG SUV positions itself as a more premium alternative to the Gloster. Although the two are mechanically similar, the Majestor is the bigger one, and also a bit more well-equipped, having larger screens, and extra luxury and off-road equipment. These are some of the upgrades for which exactly buyers are paying extra for. We compare the newly-launched Majestor to the Gloster to see how they differ from each other.

MG Majestor vs Gloster Exterior

Compared to the clean and traditional-looking Gloster, MG's new flagship vehicle is more aggressive. It has an upright stance

a large gloss-black grille, vertically-positioned LED headlamps, T-style LED DRLs. MG has also

added darker accents to the exterior for living up to the expectations of commanding road presence. In comparison, the Gloster uses a chrome-heavy design language with a simpler headlamp setup and a less rugged overall look. The Majestor also gets redesigned alloy wheels, chunkier body cladding, and a more muscular look. It also has connected LED taillamps (linked by a full-width light bar, and dual exhaust tips.

The interior differences between the the new and former flagship are very apparent. The Majestor has swapped the Gloster’s classic black-and-tan aesthetic for a far more aggressive, contemporary all-black cabin theme accented by stark silver highlights. That said, both SUVs cater to large families with 6- and 7-seat layouts.

The real justification for the Majestor's premium price tag lies in its massive technology and comfort creatures. The dashboard has been completely reimagined to house a dual 12.3-inch display setup. There is also a 12-speaker JBL sound system. Front-row occupants get powered seats featuring heating, ventilation, and even massage functions. Furthermore, by moving the gear selector to a steering-column mount, MG has decluttered the center console. The 4WD variants now boast heavy-duty mechanical hardware, including multiple terrain modes and segment-defining triple differential locks.

In comparison, the Gloster comes with a 8-inch digital driver’s display and a gear selector mounted on the centre console. While the Gloster already offered a premium feature set with equipment such as Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and a digital instrument cluster, the Majestor takes things a step further with a more advanced cabin and stronger off-road focus.

MG Majestor vs Gloster Engine and Off-Road Hardware

Mechanically, the two SUVs are the same, with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine (used in the Gloster’s higher variants). The motor produces around 212bhp and 478Nm and comes paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Buyers can opt for either a rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive in both SUVs. That said, the Majestor adds more serious off-road capability with features such as triple differential locks, crawl control, and up to 10 terrain modes on the 4WD variant.

The MG Majestor is larger than the Gloster. It is longer, wider, and taller than the former flaghip SUV, although both SUVs continue to share the same 2,950mm wheelbase.

MG Majestor vs Gloster Price

MG has currently revealed prices only for the top-spec Savvy variants of the Majestor. The Savvy RWD carries a price tag of Rs 40.99 lakh, which is Rs 1.19 lakh more than the Gloster Savvy RWD costing Rs 39.80 lakh (both ex-showroom).

The Majestor Savvy 4WD, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 44.99 lakh, exhibiting a premium of Rs 2.50 lakh over the Gloster Savvy 4WD, which is priced at Rs 42.49 lakh.
