Tata Nexon has emerged as India’s top-selling SUV in September 2025, beating other popular models such as the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N, and Hyundai Creta. Riding on strong festive demand and GST 2.0 price effect, it clocked more than 22,500 unit sales to reclaim the title of being the market’s top SUV — enough to catapult Tata Motors not only into strengthening its SUV portfolio but also taking back overall passenger vehicle sales ranking at No. 2 just behind Maruti Suzuki.

Tata Nexon Tops SUV Sales Chart
Industry numbers put Tata Motors at a new high with 60,907 units retailed in September 2025 reflecting a 5% MoM jump. Leading the SUV charts for Tata was Nexon, followed by Punch and
Harrier SUVs. The compact SUV offers an expansive variant lineup in petrol, diesel, and EV choices that continues to remain attractive for a large pool of buyers. This versatility when combined with pricing benefits post-GST puts it at a very dominant position against its rivals in this segment.
How Rivals Fared
The Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N + Classic) witnessed sales of over 18,300 units, while the Hyundai Creta managed to pull off sales of almost 18,861 units. Though there has been excellent demand for both models, the Tata model has received tremendous volume momentum due to the brand's wider network outreach and readily available stock before the festive season kicks in. Adding meaningfully to brand sales is Tata's growing EV portfolio with cars like the Nexon EV; this model gets a further boost from that as well.
