Gone are the days when a car was just perceived as means to travel from one place to another. BMW has transformed the XM Label, its most powerful production M to date, into a mobile DJ booth and it makes us wonder if the lines between automotive and music culture are beginning to blur. Called the BMW XM Label Soundmachine, the one-off masterpiece has been designed and developed by apprentices at the brand's Dingolfing plant. It exudes the feel of a nightclub on wheels, with giant LED screens, fog machines, professional-grade audio equipment and festival-style lighting. Though the BMW XM Label Soundmachine is an a one-off concept, it shows how modern cars are evolving to offer more than traditional driving experience. Let's take a look at the concept's
design and other features.
BMW XM Label Soundmachine Engine And Performance
As for the mechanical setup, BMW's one-off concept has retained the standard car's specs, and is continued to be powered by its M Hybrid unit. The powerful electrified drivetrain includes a twin-turbo V8, a 19.2kWh battery pack and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox. Power and torque outputs stands at 748hp and 1,000Nm.
Despite the extensive modifications, the BMW XM Label remains fully operational and can still move at speeds of up to 15 km/h, effectively turning it into a rolling stage for music festivals and live events. What is more interesting to note that is its ability to function without any external power source. By using the SUV’s hybrid battery system, the audio equipment, LED display and lighting setup can run autonomously for up to an hour.
BMW XM Label Soundmachine Design and Setup
The XM Soundmachine has seen a wide spectrum of major structural changes to accommodate its live-event hardware. For instance, the roof section serves as an elevated performance platform, and it houses a professional Pioneer DJ setup with a DJM V10 mixer and CDJ 3000 players. There's also a massive 6-square-metre double-sided LED wall behind the DJ booth that offers visual effects during performances. BMW has also integrated fog machines into the wheel arches, and underbody lighting and stage lights add to the festival-like appearance of the SUV.
A lot of extensive structural reinforcement has also been done to make the one-off project look like true DJ booth. BMW developed a custom support framework along with additional crossmembers and bespoke mounting brackets to securely accommodate the speakers, lighting systems and massive LED display. Inside, the SUV features a dedicated standing platform and a double-floor setup that increases stability in addition to creating extra room for the technical hardware.
BMW XM Label Soundmachine Features And Audio System
The BMW XM Soundmachine uses a professional-grade dBTechnologies audio system that includes VIO C12 active speakers and VIO S118R subwoofers. The setup is designed as well as developed to provide a concert-level sound output suitable for outdoor performances and large gatherings.
