In a market dominated by SUVs, the mid-size sedan segment has found two strong defenders, which are the Skoda Slavia and the Volkswagen Virtus. Built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform, these two cars share engines, safety hardware and even many features. Yet, they feel different once you look closer. Let's find out what makes them different?
Design and road presence
The Skoda Slavia, priced from Rs 9,99,900 (ex-showroom), has a clean and elegant design. It looks understated and mature with sharp LED headlamps, L-shaped DRLs and subtle chrome touches.
Whereas, the Volkswagen Virtus, starting at Rs 10,49,900 (ex-showroom), feels more aggressive. Especially in the GT/Sport trims, it wears bold black elements, sportier alloys and a stronger stance.
Engine
options and performance
Both sedans offer the same turbo-petrol engines, but how they feel can differ slightly.
- 1.0L TSI petrol producing 114 bhp and 178 Nm torque, is available with a 6-speed manual or automatic in both cars. This engine is smooth, efficient, and ideal for city driving.
- 1.5L TSI petrol producing 148 bhp and 250 Nm torque, offering a 7-speed DSG automatic, featuring Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) that shuts down two cylinders when cruising to improve fuel efficiency.
Space, comfort and practicality
This is where both cars shine equally, as they offer 521-litre boot space which is among the largest in the segment, 179 mm ground clearance and spacious rear seats suitable for family use. The Slavia leans toward comfort with softer seat cushioning and a calmer cabin vibe. The Virtus feels a bit firmer and more driver-focused, especially at higher speeds.

Features and technology
Both sedans are generously equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, digital driver display, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof and automatic climate control. The Slavia adds a premium touch with its 8-speaker sound system including a subwoofer, while the Virtus stands out with ambient lighting and a slightly sportier cabin layout.
Safety
Safety is a strong reason to choose either car, as both the Slavia and Virtus have earned a 5-star Global NCAP rating and come with 6 airbags as standard, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), multi-collision braking and traction control and ISOFIX mounts. This makes them among the safest cars you can buy under Rs 15 lakh.
Verdict
Choose the Skoda Slavia if you want elegant design, comfort-focused driving and a slightly lower starting price. However pick the Volkswagen Virtus if you want sportier styling, a more engaging driving feel and GT branding with a performance edge.
