Toyota is preparing to unveil a new chapter in its most exclusive nameplate, the Century, with a two-door coupe concept set to debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month. Following the sedan and SUV iterations, this upcoming model signals Toyota’s intent to evolve the Century brand beyond its traditional image of understated Japanese luxury.
The new Century coupe takes an unconventional approach for a high-end model. Early images suggest a raised, coupe-like silhouette that merges characteristics of an SUV and even a minivan. Notably, it will feature a sliding passenger-side door, a rare design choice for a coupe, while the driver’s side retains a standard hinged door. The absence of a B-pillar further adds to the sleek and seamless look,
setting it apart from conventional two-door luxury cars.

Toyota describes the vehicle as a “one of one,” hinting that this may not be a mass-production model. Instead, it appears to be a bespoke design exercise or a limited-run concept aimed at showcasing the brand’s craftsmanship for elite clients. At the front, the coupe carries the signature phoenix emblem, positioned over a semi-enclosed grille that could hint at hybrid underpinnings. It is expected to use either the 3.5-litre V6 hybrid from the Century SUV or possibly a V8 hybrid setup similar to the earlier sedan. Also Read: Tesla Model Y Gets A Bigger Battery And Longer Range In India - Without A Price Hike!
Teaser images also point to a centrally positioned driver’s seat; a layout rarely seen outside of supercars. First introduced in 1967, the Toyota Century has been a symbol of Japanese prestige, reserved mainly for top executives and dignitaries. Its transition into an SUV in 2023 marked a significant departure from tradition. The upcoming Japan Mobility Show unveiling will reveal how far Toyota intends to push its flagship brand. Whether this new coupe enters production or remains a design showcase remains to be seen.
