If fuel prices worry you but you are not ready to switch to a fully electric car, the Honda City e:HEV ZX offers a middle path. Priced at Rs 19,99,900 (ex-showroom), this top model is a strong hybrid sedan, which means it uses both petrol and electric power to run efficiently. The car automatically switches between petrol engine and electric motor depending on driving conditions. You don’t need to charge it like an EV. It manages everything on its own.
What Makes It Different
The City e:HEV uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine along with two electric motors. Together, they produce around 126 PS power and 253 Nm torque. This switching happens automatically. For the driver, it feels smooth and silent most of the time. There are three ways the car runs-
- Pure EV Mode – runs only on battery at low speeds
- Hybrid Mode – engine charges battery while motor drives wheels
- Engine Mode – petrol engine takes over at higher speeds
The biggest reason to consider this car is fuel efficiency. The City e:HEV delivers around 27.1 kmpl (ARAI), which is very high for a petrol car of this size. In daily city driving, where traffic is heavy, the electric motor helps save fuel. This is where hybrid cars make the most difference.
Driving Experience
The car uses an e-CVT automatic gearbox, which means there are no gear shifts that you can feel. Driving is smooth, especially in traffic. It also uses regenerative braking, which means the battery charges itself when you slow down. This improves efficiency without any extra effort from the driver.

Safety
Honda has equipped this model with Honda Sensing (Level 2 ADAS). This includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Road Departure Warning. Along with this, you get 6 airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, and features like LaneWatch camera. These features help reduce stress while driving and add an extra layer of protection.
Comfort And Features
Inside, the City e:HEV feels premium as it comes with 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, electric sunroof, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and 7-inch digital instrument cluster. There is also an electric parking brake with auto hold, which replaces the traditional handbrake.
Space And Practical Use
The sedan offers good cabin space, but the boot is slightly smaller at 306 litres because of the battery placement. Still, for daily use and small trips, it remains practical. The Honda City e:HEV ZX is not about speed or flashy features. It is about saving fuel, smooth driving, and advanced safety.
