Electric cars under Rs 30 lakh are set to unlock major savings as part of the new Delhi EV policy (2026-2030). The Delhi Government's ambitious Rs 15,000 crore-backed policy has replaced the older 2020 version while making the switch to clean mobility more affordable than ever before, especially for middle-income buyers. It has also revamped the framework by emphasising battery-powered vehicles, with steadily phasing out of internal combustion engine (ICE) options across the commercial and two-wheeler segments.
Here's What The Delhi EV Policy 2026 Offers
According to the new EV policy, any electric car with an ex-showroom price of Rs 30 lakh or below, registered within the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, will enjoy a 100% exemption from road tax and registration charges until
March 31, 2030. When taking into account a practical perspective, the waiver could trim the effective on-road price of eligible EVs by anywhere between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, depending on the model and its segment. This comes across as a significant move for value-conscious as well as price-sensitive buyers, as that's a major cushioning against the typically higher upfront cost of going electric.

What This Means For EV Buyers
PV segment of India contributes a massive chunk to overall sales, and it is currently largely dominated by petrol and diesel models. That shift towards electric mobility is an uphill task. High initial costs and patchy charging infrastructure have kept EVs in a relatively niche space. The new Delhi EV Policy strives to change that equation. By easing the financial burden of ownership, the policy is expected to accelerate EV adoption and make electric cars a more economical choice for daily commuters. The timing adds further weight to the move. With global crude oil markets remaining volatile amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the cost advantages of running an electric vehicle look highly appealing. For anyone planning an EV purchase in Delhi, understanding which models qualify for these upcoming benefits could lead to meaningful long-term savings.
