If you are a fan of all-wheel-drive SUVs that offer both rugged off-road characteristics and quick on-road acceleration, then luxury options with exorbitant prices were your only option up till recently.
That is because, when Tata Motors launched its flagship Harrier.ev QWD in India, the quick and powerful all-wheel-drive experience became fairly accessible to the masses for the first time. However, the Quad-Wheel-Drive (QWD), dual-motor setup is still reserved for the top-end variant in the electric Harrier, for which one has to shell out upwards of Rs 28 lakh ex-showroom.

If the price tag was a barrier between you and the Harrier.ev QWD, then rumours suggest there might be good news on the horizon. According to several reports, Tata Motors is supposedly working on bringing the QWD all-wheel-drive tech with the larger 75 kWh battery pack into the Harrier.ev's lower variants soon. This would make the more powerful version accessible to a wider set of buyers, including those who want a capable off-roader for their weekend pursuits.
In comparison to the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version's 238 hp, the Harrier.ev QWD produces a higher output of 390 hp and 504 Nm of torque from its dual-motor setup, giving it a 0-100 kmph time of just 6.3 seconds. For perspective, those power figures are considerably higher than a 6-cylinder Porsche 718 Cayman, which produces 300 hp and 379 Nm of torque. Tata's flagship electric SUV further claims a 622 km range in its QWD dual-motor version.
Currently, the Harrier.ev QWD is only available in the top-end Empowered QWD 75 variant and prices range between Rs 28.99 lakh to Rs 30.23 lakh ex-showroom, accounting for the special Stealth edition and add-on fast-charger. If rumours are true, then we can expect the QWD tech to be introduced from the mid-spec Fearless variant that currently has a starting price of Rs 23.99 lakh ex-showroom. However, the added tech is expected to add a significant markup on that figure. While there is no official confirmation from Tata Motors, we expect the more affordable Harrier.ev QWD to officially arrive by late 2026.
