BYD will showcase its first-ever plug-in hybrid model in the Indian market on June 9, 2026. What will make this event significant for the Chinese carmaker is that the upcoming car will mark the debut of its globally-acclaimed Super DM plug-in hybrid technology here. As of now, the model name is not revealed, but industry reports suggest that the car could be either the Sealion 6 DM-i or the Atto 2 DM-i. Both SUVs use BYD’s dual-mode intelligent hybrid system. They are expected to target buyers looking for strong efficiency amid rising fuel costs and growing interest in electric transportation. Let's dive into the global specifications of the possible SUVs in the market.
BYD Atto 2 DM-i
The BYD Atto 2 DM-i stands a high chance of making it to our shores. Globally,
it is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that works in tandem with electric motors and BYD’s Blade Battery technology. Depending on the market, it is offered in multiple configurations. The Atto 2 measures 4,330mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675mm in height. It is a well-equipped compact SUV with ambient lighting and wireless phone charging, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch central infotainment display, and a panoramic sunroof. It also comes equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, ADAS, and a 360-degree camera system. The final specs of the India-based model are yet to be revealed, but we anticipate them to be similar to the global version.
BYD Sealion 6 DM-i
The Sealion 6 DM-i is a larger mid-size plug-in hybrid SUV and could be the Chinese automaker's more premium answer to the Creta for India. Internationally, it is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions, depending on the variant. The FWD version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a single electric motor. The AWD variant packs a dual-motor setup (one on each axle).
