After nearly 13 years at Elon Musk's Tesla, Raj Jegannathan, who acted as the Vice President of IT and AI Infrastructure, has officially moved on from the company, marking the end of a long and influential chapter behind the scenes at one of the world’s most talked-about automakers. Unlike Musk, Jegannathan played a critical role in shaping Tesla’s technology backbone during a long period of rapid growth and transformation.
Jegannathan shared the news through a post on LinkedIn, reflecting on his journey and the work he led for over more than a decade. In his post, he mentioned his time at Tesla as one of “continuous evolution,” highlighting his involvement in designing, building, and operating one of the world’s largest AI clusters. His responsibilities extended far beyond infrastructure, spanning IT, security, sales systems, and service operations, which are areas that are essential to keeping Tesla’s global business running smoothly.He emphasised that having an end-to-end understanding of the business was key to using artificial intelligence in a meaningful way, not just for products but also for customer support and internal operations. Thanking his teams, Jegannathan called them exceptional partners who taught him something new every day. He signed
off by saying he was leaving with “a full heart and excitement” for what lies ahead.
Raj Jegannathan - Early Life And Career
Raj Jegannathan’s professional journey spans over 25 years in the IT sector. He started his career in 2002 as a self-employed software developer, building hands-on technical experience early on. According to his LinkedIn profile, he went on to found his own company, Visali Technologies, in April 2007. There, he managed IT services and development operations, gaining valuable leadership experience as an entrepreneur.
In 2011, Jegannathan joined Virgin America as a contractor, working as a Senior Systems Administrator. During this time, he provided infrastructure support for airline operations. His career then took another step forward in March 2012, when he joined iOPEX Technologies in Chennai. After spending nearly six months there, he joined Tesla in California as a Senior Staff Engineer.

From that point onward, Jegannathan steadily rose through the ranks and over the years, he held key leadership roles, including Director of Platforms, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud, and Security. In January 2025, he was appointed Vice President of IT, AI Infrastructure, Business Applications, and Information Security., which is one of the most influential technology roles within Tesla.
On the academic side, Jegannathan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science and a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) in Computer Science from Sacred Heart College.
As Tesla continues to expand its use of AI and digital systems, Raj Jegannathan’s contributions will remain a significant part of the company’s technological foundation, even as he prepares for his next chapter beyond Tesla.
