The compact SUV segment in India is growing fast and is highly competitive. From homegrown carmakers to foreign brands, buyers in this segment today have a large variety to choose from, however, the majority of them still end up picking between a couple of popular options. One such top-selling compact SUV is the Tata Motors Nexon SUV, which sold over 23,000 units in the month of January 2026. For perspective, the Hyundai Venue managed to sell 12,413 cars in the same period despite being a key rival to the Nexon. Here's a quick look at what has made the Tata Nexon a success over its 9-year-long career.
There Is A Variant For Everyone -
When it comes to the Tata Nexon, it offers a wide range of variants, powertrains and combinations to suit a large
set of car buyers. Currently, the Nexon is offered in petrol, CNG, diesel and all-electric drivetrains. The ICE models further offer multiple transmission options, including manual, AMT, automatic and DCT automatic gearboxes. The choice factor is further enhanced by the 39 versions of the Nexon that are on sale, currently priced between Rs 7.31 lakh and Rs 14.15 lakh ex-showroom. These do not account for the variants and trims that are available for the Nexon EV.
Having a high number of variants and multiple powertrains that cost under Rs 15 lakh and are spaced out by approximately Rs 7 lakh gives the Tata Nexon a major price advantage against its competitors. Even in the top-end variants, the Nexon SUV offers a more attractive proposition with an identical feature list at a lower purchasing cost. Last but not least, having a 5-star crash safety rating from both Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP further helps this SUV's case with family car buyers.

Apart from these reasons, the Tata Nexon also benefits from the automaker's extensive service network across the country, leading to a perception of stress-free ownership. The extensive list of variants that we discussed earlier also gives the Nexon a geographical edge. This is because some variants may suit urban car buyers more than other variants that fit really well with the requirements of tier 2 and tier 3 cities and towns. Apart from the attractive aspects such as its SUV shape, futuristic design and extensive features list, the above-mentioned factors also play a key role in contributing to the success of these Made-in-India compact SUVs.
