Electric Vehicle sales across India showed sustained momentum in December 2025, with segment leaders such as Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor and Mahindra making up the majority of market share. However, Vahan data shows that while things panned out as expected for the top three EV makers, there was a shift in customer preference amongst the medium volume brands, with the new VinFast EV brand surpassing well-established South Korean and European brands in terms of sales.
Vietnamese EV maker, VinFast, recently entered the Indian EV market with its VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs. Deliveries for the two VinFast EVs began in October 2025 and the latest Vahan data from December 2025 shows that the manufacturer has gathered a decent amount of monthly sales. With
375 electric cars sold in December, VinFast has surpassed BMW India, which sold 343 EVs, Kia India, which sold 313 EVs and Hyundai India, which sold 262 electric cars. Sales figures of VinFast EVs were also considerably higher than those of Chinese EV maker BYD in India, which managed to sell 237 cars in December 2025.
VinFast India is currently producing its VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs from its new plant in Tamil Nadu. The VF6 is a mid-sized electric SUV with prices starting from Rs 17.29 lakh ex-showroom. It gets a 59.6 kWh battery pack that gives it a claimed range of up to 468 km on a full charge. The VF6 is designed and priced to appeal to the mass market. The VF7 on the other hand, is a more premium offering with prices starting from Rs 21.89 lakh ex-showroom. This electric SUV also gets the option of a larger 70.8 kWh battery pack that gives it a claimed range of up to 532 km.

Most importantly, VinFast India's current portfolio is positioned to compete in the two fastest-growing EV segments of the country. The VF6 takes care of competition from the mid-sized budget-friendly segment and the VF7 is designed to appeal to the more premium customers against other popular models such as the Tata Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, 9S and others.
