Yamaha Plans Big Export Push This Year, Chennai Facility To Lead Global Strategy

Yamaha is gearing up for a strong year on the export front, with the company aiming for 25% growth and positioning its Chennai plant as a global hub for international markets. The Japanese two-wheeler maker already ships products to around 55 countries, and now plans to widen that footprint, Yamaha Motor Co Ltd Senior Executive Officer and Yamaha Motor India Group Chairman Itaru Otani told PTI.

"We are trying to achieve a big growth, like by 25 per cent this year on exports," Otani said, outlining the company’s outlook for 2025. Yamaha has momentum on its side, India Yamaha Motor closed 2024–25 with a 33.4% jump in exports, sending out 2,95,728 units compared to 2,21,736 units in the previous year.

A significant part of its global strategy centres on Tamil Nadu. Otani confirmed that the company is developing its Chennai facility into an export hub for markets across the world, including advanced regions such as the US, Europe, and Japan. Yamaha began shipments to Europe last year, a move Otani said has worked well for the brand. Continued investment in Chennai is underway to keep the plant aligned with international standards.

The factory currently produces several models for overseas markets, including the FZ series (V2, V3, V4), Crux, Saluto, Aerox 155, Ray ZR 125 Fi Hybrid, and Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid. Yamaha also exports motorcycles from its Surajpur plant in Uttar Pradesh.

"At this moment, we export to 55 countries. Altogether, we are targeting 25 per cent growth in exports (this year)," Otani added, hinting at both expansion and deeper penetration across existing markets. When asked whether Yamaha is eyeing new destinations, he said the company is actively planning, including entries into advanced countries.

According to Otani, Yamaha will continue scanning global markets for regions with strong demand and long-term potential, and wherever the opportunity aligns, the company will consider expanding its presence.
