The rollout of GST 2.0 has brought about drastic changes in the tax structure for motorcycles in India. All models above 350cc now attract 40% GST as against the earlier 28%. This has led to fears of huge price hikes on popular mid-capacity bikes. Motorcycles like Triumph Speed 400 and KTM 390 Adventure fall under this higher tax slab and were expected to get dearer but both the manufacturers have confirmed that the ex-showroom prices for their 400cc and 390cc models will remain unchanged even after the updated GST rate.

Triumph’s Decision
According to the official press release, Triumph India, managed by Bajaj Auto, confirmed that the Speed
400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400X, and the Thruxton 400 will continue at their current ex-showroom prices. The Speed 400 is priced at around Rs 2.51 lakh, while the Scrambler 400X starts at Rs 2.68 lakh. As for the Speed T4 and Thruxton 400, they carry ex-showroom price tags of Rs 1.99 lakh and Rs 2.74 lakh, respectively. This move ensures that customers are shielded from the immediate tax burden, even as the company absorbs the higher GST impact internally.
KTM Models Unaffected
KTM has also announced that its 390cc range will not be part of a price revision at this moment; hence, the prices of 390 Duke, RC 390, Adventure 390, and Adventure X continue as currently set. By holding back on any increment in pricing, KTM will still be competitive within the premium entry-level motorcycle segment during this crucial buying season.
- KTM 390 Adventure: 3.68 lakh (ex-showroom)
- KTM RC 390: Rs 3.23 lakh (ex-showroom)
- KTM 390 Adventure X: 3.04 lakh (ex-showroom)
- KTM 390 Duke: Rs 2.97 lakh (ex-showroom)

What It Means For Buyers
GST 2.0 has indeed attracted additional taxes for motorcycles above 350cc, but the good thing is that neither Triumph nor KTM will pass these extra costs to the buyers of these machines. As a result, riders can acquire these models at prices existing before GST 2.0, at least until further updates are declared. At this moment, the festive season is a great time to acquire these motorcycles since no extra cost has been imposed despite the tax increase only recently.
