the large petrol-powered SUV space is Tata Motors, which recently launched the Harrier and Safari petrol SUVs in India. With the Safari being the 7-seater between the two, many family car buyers are likely to consider the SUV as it starts from an attractive price tag of Rs 13.29 lakh ex-showroom. The Safari petrol 'Smart' variant is the base point from where the 53 variant lineup for the 7-seater begins. It offers the new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and produces 168 hp with 280 Nm of torque. Other standard equipment on the Safari petrol base variant includes 17-inch alloy wheels, all our disc brakes, a 50-litre fuel tank, the option of four different exterior colours and a 3-year or 1 lakh kilometre warranty.
Coming to the features list, the Safari petrol base variant offers fabric seat upholstery, a 7-inch digital driver information display, Bi-LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, illuminated logo steering wheel, rear parking sensors, electric tailgate release and all power windows. Safety is also well covered with 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, hill hold assist and more. The Safari also has a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP.
While the Safari Smart variant covers all the basics but misses out on entertainment options such as an infotainment touchscreen and speakers for audio. Entertainment comes at an additional cost of Rs 3.20 lakh in the Pure X variant that adds a considerable amount of equipment at Rs 16.49 lakh ex-showroom. It includes a 10.24-inch infotainment touchscreen, 4-speakers, 360-degree camera, cruise control, panoramic sunroof and a lot more.

Overall, the base variant Safari petrol puts forward a strong proposition for family car buyers who are looking for a 7-seater SUV on a budget and do not want to go for the MPV segment options that are available under the Rs 15 lakh price bracket.
