Hero MotoCorp’s electric arm, Vida, has taken another clear step toward entering the electric motorcycle space in India as the company has now patented the design of the Vida Ubex electric motorcycle, which signals that the concept shown earlier is slowly converting into reality. While there is still no official word on launch timelines, pricing or specifications, the patent filing itself is an important development and shows that Vida is serious about expanding beyond electric scooters.
The Ubex was first seen as a concept when Vida showcased its future product ideas and at the time, it was one of several designs meant to highlight what the brand could do in the electric two-wheeler space. Concepts often remain design studies, but once a manufacturer files a patent, it usually means the project has moved into a more practical and production-focused phase. The newly released patent images show a motorcycle that looks far more road-ready than the original concept. One of the biggest changes visible in the patent drawings is the hardware as the concept model featured upside-down front forks, which are expensive and usually reserved for premium motorcycles. In the patented design, these have been replaced with conventional
telescopic forks, a more realistic choice for mass production. This change alone suggests that Vida is now thinking in terms of cost, durability and everyday usability.
Up front, it gets a compact projector-style headlamp with LED daytime running lights and integrated turn indicators. The body design is clean and minimal, with a sculpted central panel replacing a traditional fuel tank. Alloy wheels are visible in the drawings, along with disc brakes at both ends, pointing toward a focus on balanced performance and safety.

The riding position appears upright and comfortable, which should appeal to daily commuters as well as new riders. A single-piece stepped seat and neutral footpeg positioning indicate that the Ubex is being designed as a practical motorcycle rather than a sporty, aggressive machine. Details like split grab rails, a rear tyre hugger and a neatly packaged swingarm further reinforce its everyday-friendly intent.
Another key highlight is the battery placement as the patent images show a large battery pack positioned low in the frame. This layout helps improve balance and handling. The Ubex is expected to use a mid-mounted motor that drives the rear wheel, similar to earlier Vida electric concepts. While technical details are still under wraps, this setup generally offers better performance and smoother power delivery compared to hub motors.
As for features, the production version could get a TFT instrument display with connected technology such as navigation and smartphone integration, though Vida has not confirmed this yet. When launched, the Ubex is expected to be sold through Hero’s premium Premia dealerships along with Vida’s existing electric outlets.
In simple terms, the design patent confirms that Vida’s electric motorcycle plans are real and moving forward. The Ubex could mark Hero’s entry into a new chapter of electric mobility.
