River EV has announced an extended warranty of 8 years/80,000 km for its electric scooter, River Indie, effective October 1, 2025. The plan covers battery and motor components. Existing owners and new customers will be eligible to opt for it. Even those holding River's earlier 5-year extended warranty will be allowed to upgrade to the new plan. This effectively answers two of the biggest issues about owning an electric vehicle: battery degradation and motor failure. All terms are clearly defined.

What Exactly Is Covered
The battery pack will be replaced if its State of Health falls below 70 per cent. Riders are hereby protected from any substantial degradation that may take place and
reduce the range and usability of the scooter. In addition, warranty coverage includes the motor unit as well. If a motor fails and cannot be repaired to proper standards, it will be replaced under warranty. Most often, these are the components that have an effect on the long-term performance of a scooter and its total cost of ownership.
Eligibility And Pricing
The warranty will be priced. Customers who made their scooters purchases from April 1, 2025, onwards can buy the eight-year warranty plan at Rs 8,399 plus GST. Also, who have already chosen River’s five years of warranty can upgrade it to the extended coverage within one month period by paying Rs 3,399 plus GST. This tiered pricing structure gives an option to new buyers as well as the existing scooter owners who want to extend their warranty coverage.

Limitations And Things To Check
However, there are certain limitations. Batteries will only be replaced if the SOH falls below 70 per cent. Any slow degradation above that level is covered by the owner. In addition, a motor replacement can only be done after an attempt to repair it has failed, so not all problems qualify for a full replacement. The one-month window to upgrade from the five-year plan is also restrictive, as owners who miss it lose the discounted option.
