A recent spy video of the Mahindra Vision S has given the clearest look yet at the interior of this sub-4-metre SUV, confirming a mix of components drawn from across Mahindra's existing range — and one detail that raises an interesting question about whether an electric version might be in the works alongside the confirmed ICE model. If you have been waiting on developments regarding this 'baby defender', here's all you need to know.
What's Inside the Vision S?
The Mahindra Vision S cabin spy footage reveals a high-set dashboard with what appears to be a 12.3-inch instrument cluster paired with a tall, squarish infotainment screen. The AC vents are vertically oriented and the climate control panel appears to share its design with the Thar Roxx and Scorpio N which signals
that Mahindra is keeping parts commonality rather than engineering a completely fresh cabin layout.
A conventional gear selector and a manual handbrake in this particular test mule suggest a mid-spec or upper-mid-spec petrol or diesel variant — the top-spec versions are expected to get an electric parking brake. Pull-strap door handles similar to those on the Thar, are also visible. A rotary knob on the right side of the steering column is a carry-over from the Vision S concept and is likely for headlight control, a feature more commonly seen on European market cars which has led to some speculation that Mahindra could position the Vision S for export too.
Steering Wheel Borrowed from the BE 6?
Here's the detail that's generated the most debate. The steering wheel in this specific test mule is the same two-spoke unit used on the BE 6 electric SUV — not the wheel seen in earlier ICE test mules of the Vision S. This matters because the NU_IQ platform the Vision S is built on is multi-energy by design and supports petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains. An electric Vision S would be significant: it would be the first Mahindra EV not to use the INGLO skateboard platform that underpins the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S.
Whether the BE 6 steering wheel is a temporary placeholder or a deliberate hint at an EV variant isn't confirmed yet and previous spy shots clearly showed an ICE-specific steering wheel. Either way, a diesel manual is already confirmed from earlier sightings and the NU_IQ architecture leaves the door open for electrification later.
Production of NU_IQ-based models is expected to begin in 2027. The ex-showroom price is expected to begin from Rs 10.50 lakh. The 'S' in Vision S is widely speculated to stand for Scorpio, though Mahindra hasn't confirmed the final nameplate yet.
