With the action speeding up in India's electric scooter market, we are seeing major manufacturers enter the segment with new models to compete against popular offerings. The latest to enter the electric scooter race
is India Yamaha Motor (IYM), with the new EC-06 e-scooter. Yamaha has launched its first electric scooter at Rs 1,67,600 ex-showroom and the EC-06 offers larger dimensions and an emphasis on storage space as a differentiator against its rivals. Here's everything you need to know about the new Yamaha EC-06.
The highlights of the new EC-06 electric scooter include a 4 kWh battery pack that gives it a claimed range of up to 169 km on a full charge. The scooter has a top-speed of 79 kmph, thanks to its electric motor that generates 6.7 kW (8.9 hp) peak power and 26 Nm of maximum torque. It also gets three riding modes called Eco, Standard and Power, along with a Reverse Mode that makes navigating tight spaces convenient.
Other key features and equipment in the Yamaha EC-06 include an LED headlamp and taillamp, an LCD screen for real-time speed, range and battery status information, 200mm front and rear disc brakes with Combi Brake System (CBS) and connected riding features via the Yamaha Motor Connected R mobile application. It also gets telescopic front suspension with hydraulic dampers and rear coil spring suspension. When it comes to storage and practicality, the EC-06 comes with a 24.5-litre under-seat storage capacity that can accommodate helmets, bags and daily essentials, according to Yamaha.

Priced at Rs 1.67 lakh ex-showroom, the EC-06 will enter the market against several competitors from new-age brands that offer versions with longer range and better on-board features. For instance, the Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3 electric scooter comes with a larger 5.2 kWh battery pack that offers an IDC-claimed range of 320 km on a full charge and a top speed of 130 kmph. However, it has an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,54,999.
