The sculpted hood and chunkier proportions hint at Toyota’s focus on a tougher yet more modern design. At the back, the pickup gets new C-shaped LED taillamps and a redesigned tailgate, making it look more contemporary while staying true to its go-anywhere roots. On the inside, and the new Hilux is expected to move upmarket. It’s set to feature a redesigned dashboard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Under the hood, Toyota is expected to continue with the tried-and-tested 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers around 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque. However, this time, it will likely get mild-hybrid assistance for better mileage. The setup will come mated to an automatic gearbox, with both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options available. Meanwhile, the smaller 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines are expected to be discontinued.

Looking ahead, Toyota might also introduce hybrid and fully electric versions of the Hilux. Production will continue in Thailand, the brand’s main manufacturing hub for the model. Soon after the international unveiling, the Hilux is expected to make its way to Indian shores. Once launched, it will go head-to-head with the likes of Isuzu D-Max and the upcoming Scorpio pickup.
