The Hyundai Motor India is preparing to launch the Ioniq 5 facelift with a larger battery, improved range and updated features. The key update is the shift from a 72.6 kWh battery to an 84 kWh unit, which directly improves range and charging efficiency. For Indian buyers, this addresses two practical concerns: range anxiety and charging time, while keeping the overall package familiar. The facelift focuses on usability upgrades rather than a complete redesign. This signals how premium EVs are evolving in India.
Battery, Range And Charging Improvements
The biggest change for the Hyundai EV is the introduction of an 84 kWh battery pack, replacing the current 72.6 kWh unit. This upgrade increases the claimed range to around 570 km (WLTP), which is roughly 100+ km more than earlier figures.
The Ioniq 5 continues to use Hyundai’s 800V architecture, allowing ultra-fast charging. With a 350 kW DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes under ideal conditions. A short 10-minute charge can add close to 180 km of driving range, improving highway usability.
Powertrain outputs are expected to remain similar in rear-wheel-drive versions, producing around 214-215 hp and 350 Nm, while global variants may offer all-wheel-drive options with higher output figures.
Design, Interior And Feature Updates
The facelift brings subtle exterior changes including revised front and rear bumpers, updated alloy wheels and minor aerodynamic tweaks. The overall design remains largely unchanged, retaining the pixel-style lighting and clean SUV profile.
Inside, updates focus on usability. The facelift introduces a revised centre console with more physical controls, updated graphics for the digital displays as well as improved software with over-the-air update capability.
Hyundai is also expected to expand the ADAS suite and connected car features, aligning the Ioniq 5 with newer competitors in the premium EV space.
