Aprilia Tuono 457 Special Edition version has been launched in India at Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Honestly, the engine isn't the story here, everything around it is. You're looking at revised ergonomics, a reworked suspension as well as two retro-inspired colours pulled straight from the 2006 Tuono 1000R. That's actually worth knowing if you're already eyeing this segment, since these changes are aimed at real-world comfort and ride quality, not just a fresh coat of paint for the sake of it. Here's what's genuinely changed, and whether the performance side moved at all.
What's Actually Changed On The Special Edition?
Ergonomics is really the bigger talking point here. There's a taller handlebar now for a more upright riding position, an adjustable front brake lever so you can set the reach
to match your finger length, and a revised seat using high-resilience foam that should hold up better on longer rides. Suspension's been recalibrated too, a softer initial stroke to absorb bumps and potholes more smoothly, plus reworked compression damping. On the outside, you get a smoked flyscreen and two new colours, Mamba Black and Puma Grey, both styled as a nod to Aprilia's 1000R from two decades back.
Does It Get A More Powerful Engine Too?
No, and that's an important consideration for buyers before assuming "Special Edition" automatically means more performance on paper. The 457cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine carries over exactly as is, still making around 47.6 bhp and 43.5 Nm through a 6-speed gearbox. What you're really paying for here is the refinement around that engine, not a power bump. It keeps its TFT instrument console, full-LED lighting and immobiliser-equipped ignition and Aprilia's also got optional extras on the list, a bidirectional quickshifter, TPMS along with a USB charger, for anyone who wants to add a bit more.
Bookings are open now at Aprilia dealerships, though don't be surprised if the on-road price runs noticeably higher than that Rs 3.99 lakh ex-showroom figure, it really comes down to your city's road tax and registration costs. Right now on-road pricing works out to roughly Rs 4.54 lakh in Delhi, so it's worth checking your local figure before assuming the ex-showroom number is what you'll actually end up paying.
