Bharat NCAP Awards 5-Star Safety Rating To These Vietnamese EVs

While carmakers face the challenge of encouraging electric vehicle (EV) adoption across the country, it becomes an even greater challenge when the manufacturer is only months old in the domestic market

and considered a young brand in the global market. Vietnamese EV maker, VinFast, is one such brand. It currently offers two electric SUVs in India, called the VF6 and VF7 and both EVs have now scored a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP in the vehicle safety assessment crash tests. Here are the crash test results.

Both the VinFast EV models have scored a five-star safety rating for adult and child occupant safety at the Bharat NCAP tests. These include the VF6 mid-sized SUV and the more premium VF7 electric SUV. Both VinFast models offer safety features such as 7 airbags and Level 2 ADAS safety functions. Additionally, the 5-star safety rating applies to all variants of the VF6 and the VF7. While both SUVs performed competitively in the crash tests, the chest area protection for the driver in the frontal offset deformable barrier test showed 'Weak' protection in the two EVs.

The VinFast VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs have shown a promising start in the country since deliveries began in October 2025. After a recent price increase, the VF6 has a starting price of Rs 17.29 lakh ex-showroom and the VF7 prices start from Rs 21.89 lakh ex-showroom. The VF6 offers a claimed range of up to 468 km and the VF7 has a claimed range of 438 km from a 59.6 kWh capacity battery. The VF7 also has the option of a larger 70.8 kWh battery pack that extends the claimed range to 532 km on a full charge.

At these price points, the VinFast electric SUVs directly compete against established domestic brands that are currently dominating the EV market share. VinFast currently assembles both VF6 and VF7 EVs at its manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and the latest 5-star safety rating has set the benchmark for the brand and its upcoming future models in India.
