The flex-fuel journey in India has officially begun. The government has approved the E100 fuel standard. With this, buyers will now have cleaner mobility options beyond CNG and electric vehicles. Just days ago, Hero MotoCorp made history by introducing the first flex-fuel motorcycles: the Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe. Both of them are capable of running on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85. While TVS has already showcased the Raider 125 FFT at the Bharat Mobility Expo, Suzuki offers the Gixxer SF 250 Flex Fuel. Honda has also indicated a phased rollout of ethanol-compatible motorcycles. With flex fuel gaining traction across automakers in India, the revolution across the fuel ecosystem is getting started. The big question now is: which popular
125cc motorcycles could be next? Here are five strong contenders that could and arguably should receive the flex-fuel treatment in the near future.
What Is A Flex Fuel Vehicle
A flex fuel vehicle (FFV) can run multiple blends of petrol and ethanol, from standard E20 (where 20% ethanol is blended with 80% petrol) to E85 (where 85% ethanol is mixed with only 15% petrol). With the E100 coming in, the pure ethanol with zero amount of petrol will also be a reality soon.
The government has aggressively accelerated its ethanol blending programme, and E85 fuel is now commercially available in Delhi at Rs 82.12/litre, which is heavily more affordable than petrol. The new fuel directly translates to lower running costs. As for the environment, the adoption of ethanol is significant because it burns cleaner and results in a heavy reduction in carbon emissions.
Hero Glamour 125
The Glamour 125 seems to be the prime candidate from Hero to go flex fuel. The Glamour sits directly above the HF Deluxe in the model range and has the same platform. The 124.7cc air-cooled engine at its heart is technically very similar to what Hero has already re-engineered for E85 compliance. Hence, rolling out the same changes to the Glamour will be a relatively low-effort, high-impact move.
Bajaj Pulsar N125
The Pulsar N125 is a sporty streetfighter-styled 2W that uses a 124.58cc fuel-injected engine, and fuel injection is a prerequisite for seamless flex-fuel calibration. Bajaj's existing relationship with Bosch for ECU management and injector systems means adapting the N125 for E85 compliance is a genuinely achievable proposition without a complete engineering overhaul. Reports have also indicated Bajaj was exploring a flex-fuel NS160, suggesting the broader Pulsar N-series is on the radar for ethanol compatibility.
TVS Raider 125
The TVS Raider 125 is among the most certain names on this list. Why? TVS has already unveiled the Raider 125 FFT (Flex-Fuel Technology) at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 and showcased it again at the Auto Expo 2025. The 124.8cc air-cooled engine powering the Raider has been re-tuned to run on ethanol blends from E20 to E85 while retaining the same power numbers, with a claimed mileage of up to 70km/l under ideal conditions. TVS has also applied its SmartXonnect Bluetooth console, all-LED lighting, and combined braking system to the FFT variant, giving it a feature-rich package from day one.
Honda Shine 125
The Shine 125 is one of the most loved commuters in India. Its BS6 fuel-injected engine, introduced in 2020, is the technical backbone that makes an E85-compatible variant a realistic goal. Honda India has already hinted at a phased flex-fuel implementation across its product range, and the CB300F Flex Fuel was showcased at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The Shine 125's eSP (Enhanced Smart Power) engine is regarded for its refinement and low-rpm efficiency, traits that align well with ethanol's combustion characteristics.

Honda SP125
The Honda SP125 is the most feature-loaded 125cc commuter in India right now. The bike's 123.94cc fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that produces 10.72bhp and has a claimed mileage of 63km/l. Honda has confirmed a phased flex-fuel rollout in India, and given the SP125's best-in-class feature position, it is the ideal vehicle to carry that announcement with credibility and commercial weight.
In terms of prices, the bikes can command a considerable premium over their standard counterparts owing to changes to the engine for ethanol fuel compatability.
