The market of hybrid cars in India is bracing for a major expansion, with a bunch of new entrants from manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Kia and BYD. Driven by recent petrol price hikes, buyers are actively seeking smarter alternative mobility solutions, giving hybrid technology significant momentum. From the highly anticipated Renault Duster Strong Hybrid to the premium BYD Seal U DM-i and Kia Sorento Hybrid, here are the most exciting upcoming hybrid cars set to hit Indian roads.
Renault Duster Strong Hybrid
Expected Starting Price: Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom)
Renault is gearing up to launch the Duster Strong Hybrid in India before Diwali. The SUV is expected to use a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery
pack. The setup is rated to produce 158bhp and 172Nm. While the styling is likely to remain similar to the standard Duster, the strong hybrid powertrain will be its biggest highlight.
BYD Seal U DM-i
Expected Starting Price: Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom)
The BYD Seal U DM-i India launch is slated for the end of 2026. It will debut the Chinese automaker's advanced plug-in hybrid technology. Unlike conventional hybrids, BYD's DM-i system prioritises electric driving, with the petrol engine stepping in only when required. The setup combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, dual electric motors and an 18.3kWh battery. The SUV claims a range of over 1,200 kilometres, including around 70 kilometres of pure electric range.
Kia Sorento Hybrid
Expected Starting Price: Rs 27 Lakh (ex-showroom)
The Sorento Hybrid is also expected to go on sale in the country this year. The anticipation has become stronger for this as a body shell of the premium SUV was spotted in the country a while ago. Expected to be positioned above the Carnival, the Sorento will offer three-row seating, premium interiors, and a comprehensive feature list. While India-specific specifications are yet to be confirmed, international versions are available with hybrid powertrains that combine efficiency with refined performance. If launched, the Sorento will cement Kia's position in the premium SUV segment.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
Expected Starting Price: Rs 10 lakh–12 lakh (ex-showroom)
Maruti Suzuki is reported to launch the Fronx hybrid by the end of the year. The compact crossover is expected to feature the company's new in-house hybrid system, which would enhance fuel economy while keeping costs under control. Although official specifications remain under wraps, the Fronx Hybrid is expected to appeal to urban city dwellers seeking for an affordable and efficient SUV with lower running costs.
Hyundai Creta Hybrid
Expected Starting Price: Rs 18 lakh–22 lakh (ex-showroom)
Hyundai is also likely to expand the powertrain options for its best-selling mid-size SUV, the Creta, by introducing a hybrid variant. The Creta Hybrid will be part of the automaker's electrification strategy for the country. While the company has not officially confirmed the launch timeline, industry reports suggest the popular midsize SUV could use its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with one or two electric motors and a battery, and offer a mileage of over 25km/l.
