Kawasaki has revealed the Kawasaki Stockman, which is a dual-sport motorcycle developed specifically for agricultural use in Australia and New Zealand. It may look like an off-road bike at first glance, but its purpose is very different.
The Stockman is based on the Kawasaki KLX 230 platform, but it has been reworked to suit the daily needs of farmers and ranchers. Kawasaki has made it clear that this motorcycle is not planned for the Indian market, as it has been designed around overseas agricultural requirements.
Built for Fields
The Stockman has been created for people who spend their day moving across farms, fields and uneven land, often stopping frequently to inspect livestock, fences or equipment. Instead of focusing on performance thrills
or flashy styling, Kawasaki has prioritised durability, ease of use and reliability. Its design is simple and rugged, meant to handle dust, mud and rough terrain without fuss.
Engine and Transmission
Powering the Kawasaki Stockman is a 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 18.7 bhp at 7,600 rpm and 19.9 Nm of torque at 6,100 rpm, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. These numbers may not sound exciting to performance enthusiasts, but for farm use, they are more than sufficient. The engine sends power to the rear wheel through a chain drive, which is a setup that is easy to maintain and repair in remote locations.
Functional Features That Matter
One of the most interesting additions on the Stockman is its clutch lever locking system. This allows the motorcycle to stay in gear without the rider constantly holding the clutch lever. For farmers who stop and start repeatedly during work, this reduces fatigue and makes low-speed operation easier. The motorcycle also comes with aluminium hand guards, which protect the rider’s hands from branches, fencing and other obstacles commonly encountered on farms.

Chassis, Suspension and Braking
The Stockman is built around a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, chosen for strength and durability. Suspension duties are handled by 37mm telescopic forks at the front and a rear monoshock with preload adjustment, which allows the bike to handle varying loads and terrain.
Braking is managed by disc brakes at both ends, with a 265mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, providing reliable stopping power on loose or uneven surfaces.
Wheels, Dimensions and Weight
The motorcycle runs a classic 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear wheel, shod with off-road tyres which is a common setup for trail and dual-sport motorcycles. It offers 220mm of ground clearance, a seat height of 845mm, and a 7.5-litre fuel tank. At just 137kg curb weight, the Stockman is light enough to be manageable even in tricky conditions, an important factor for work-focused riding.
Availability and Market Position
The Kawasaki Stockman is exclusive to Australia and New Zealand, and Kawasaki has no plans to bring it to India. Still, it serves as an interesting reminder that motorcycles aren’t just lifestyle products, they can be essential tools. In a world chasing bigger screens and higher speeds, the Stockman quietly celebrates purpose-built simplicity.
